Amazing meals with great prices and an amazing staff plus atmosphere. They serve meals all day and this is that place that you want to go with family and friends and about anyone. Theres always a spot for someone at J's and you'll never go home not full. They serve killer breakfast and lunch and dinner. I suggest getting the pancakes for breakfast and any sand which for lunch and the chicken tenders for dinner. You'll love it all!!:)

Good down home cooking but poor service. Went on a Sunday am at 10. Line to get a table and prefer food wasn't long. Upon getting our food I ordered food for family at home to go. We finished eating and it took 30 minutes plus to get biscuits and gravy to go! Very clear the waitress forgot about us but didn't own it and simply said "we were up next!" We had been there for an hour...if.

I've only been there for breakfast, but we go often. Have only had bad service once (out of many times) and I haven't seen that server since. This is our usual place because a) the breakfast food is great at a decent price and b) the service has always been excellent.

The country fried steak and gravy was great with over easy eggs and toast. Breakfast all day is my kind of place! I like the divey atmosphere, but the carpet should have been cleaner. The younger members of the wait staff could pay more attention to customers, but I plan on returning soon.

Every time my dad comes to town we go here to eat. The food is all homemade. I highly suggest the pie, it is really good! Great service and great atmosphere! Good coffee too!

To begin you walk in and there is a sign that reads "Come as strangers, leave as family" well my service was awful. If that is how they treat their family count me out. Maybe my boyfriend and I were just unlucky for the waitress that we had, because we heard nice interactions from the other waitresses but ours was borderline rude. She was nice to other customers offering them more water and stamp cards (we were offered neither). If I was only rating based on service I would give them a 0 star rating. Now for the food. I ordered a build your own burger with tomato, garlic mayo, cheese, lettuce, and bacon, and a side of fries. My food was disappointing. The fries have no seasoning on them at all, the burger had way too much mayo, and the garlic mayo did not taste very much like garlic. My boyfriends food however was a breakfast dish the Unipanther omelet and it was very good. The portion size was so big that we could of split one. Overall, this place seems like a better place for locals and return customers than first timers.

While traveling we enjoyed the homey style and good food. We built our own hamburgers by choosing our own toppings. They were fresh and well prepared. We also tried the delicious fried macaroni bites. Service was quick and attentive. We will definitely return the next time we travel this route.

This place is outrageously good. Great comfort food. Great omelets. Great everything. Including prices. And homemade bread. I you are in town and want a real Homestyle restaurant do it.

Amazing fresh home cooked meals. J is a doll and was a gracious host. Try the Panther Omelette and at a minimum split it. Every dessert is to die for....go for breakfast any time of the day!

Went because it had good reviews. We sat down and ordered I ordered chicken fried steak and eggs and my friend order biscuits and gravy. 10 minutes later we were told that there was no gravy for either of us. Mildly disappointed I ordered bacon double cheese with fries and my friend ordered meat and eggs. Burger was not good fries lackluster and the table highlight was the bacon. They also serve a pretty decent cup of coffee. Probably won't return

This was always our Sunday breakfast spot when I was living in CF and going to school! The food is delicious and the portions are huge. I have never once been disappointed. The place stays packed throughout breakfast and lunch, which I think adds to the whole home-style feel. J's will always be my one of my favorite places to eat in the CF area!

Went here for brunch. We ordered the pork lovers delight omelette and the country fried steak. Everything was delicious! Everything that should be crispy was. The service was also very good. If we are ever in the area again we would come back.

This is my favorite restaurant in the Cedar Valley, hands down. The owner is such a kind and genuine woman, and her employees, service, food, and atmosphere reflect that. If you are looking for a delicious, home style, Iowa breakfast, THIS IS YOUR PLACE. My personal favorites include the Panther Fried Omelette, the Western Omelette, and the Biscuits and Gravy, but the menu is very versatile, including not only a wide variety of delicious breakfast foods, but also many lunch and dinner options. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of food and service. Even when every table is filled, the service is fast (I don't think it's ever taken longer than 10 or 15 minutes to get my food) and the waiters and waitresses make sure to be hospitable to every customer. Walking into J's is almost like walking into my grandma's kitchen rather than walking into a restaurant right of campus. I would recommend anyone looking for a good, family owned, homestyle experience to check out J's.

Stopped in for breakfast yesterday with a party of 4, and was really disappointed! We waited in the front for someone to acknowledge is for about 4-5 minutes. That doesn't sound like a long time, but when there are several people walking by without as much as a "Hello!"... Feels rude! Two of us ordered coffee and the server never offered to refill during our meal; I had to walk up to the counter to ask for some, and waited and waited. I eventually sat back down without any coffee. We flagged another server over to ask for coffee since ours was MIA, and I asked her if they had decaf. Her response- "Well, I could go get it..." Wow! I KNOW you CAN, so sorry to bother you at work! Nobody ever smiled at us. I didn't feel welcome. Food was just ok, nothing so amazing that would bring me back to endure the flighty and rude staff.

Sometimes when my wife leaves me, my dog dies and I have to sell smack on the street to pay my taxes, I come to J's to remember that life is still worth living... and get a cinnamon roll from Molly.

I have to say that my expectations were low heading in based solely on the appearance from the curb. It was a Sunday the place was stacked. I was impressed the way they moved through the waiting list. Before no time they had taken my order served my food, pancakes witch were incredible! I was blown away at how efficient they were. I need to return for lunch and dinner.. I'll report back after I have the pleasure.

Yummy food, relaxed atomsphere and everything is homemade, even the bread is baked fresh daily. They serve breakfest all the time too and the short stack is a must.

A group of us from work decided to have lunch here one day at the recommendation of one of our friends. I was skeptical, as I haven't had many appealing experiences at little homestyle restaurants. I was pleasantly surprised. The food was pretty decent, and while it didn't stand out as spectacular, it was hearty and filling with good sized portions. The service was very good, and topped off with the lady who runs the place asking if we'd been there before and taking a few minutes to introduce herself and welcome us, hand shakes and all. That really stood out, to me. The warm grandmotherly air she had reflected well on her restaurant. If you're looking for a relaxed, old-school atmosphere . . . check out J's.

If your looking for Honest Diner/ Home cooking from the griddle type foods this is it for the Cedar Valley! Great service, big portions and good honest food at a good honest price! Great place for before church or after a big night out! This place brings it the old fashion way....Love it! Lunch specials are always a treat! Also the desserts are amazing the pies are way better then any trendy cupcake place.....nothing says I love you better then a home made pie! I vote J's has the best Pie in the mid west! Great place to take kids.....service is down home sweet! Thank you J's Home Style! And please open a Pie Store on Main street!

Our family was traveling through town. Everyone greeted us (my husband, two children and myself) as we came in. Service was prompt from the beginning. Food was excellent! Large portions so we got to take home leftovers. They gave our children cookies to go as we were paying to leave. Very nice staff, enjoyed the food greatly and will return when back in the area.

We waited an hour for a table and then sat right next to door and froze. Don't know why we waited other than desperation. Don't go there Sunday mornings unless you have whole morning to kill. Ham cheese omelet was good but could use more cheese. Biscuit and gravy inferior to Gravy's.
